FAQ on the on-premise learning management system

What is the difference between a self-hosted learning management system and a cloud-based solution?

A self-hosted learning management system (LMS) runs on your organization’s own servers. It gives you full control over system operation, customization, and data protection. You can tailor the on-premise LMS to your specific needs, but it requires substantial IT resources to manage maintenance, updates, and security effectively.

In contrast to hosted LMS solutions, a cloud-based solution operates on the provider’s servers and is accessible over the internet. It simplifies user access, reduces the IT workload, and ensures automatic updates and scalability. Cloud-based LMSs are ideal for organizations with limited technical support. However, you may have less control over customization, data security, and system upgrades.

Is there an extra fee for installing a self-hosted learning management system?

Yes, additional payment is required for an on-premise installation of the iSpring Learn LMS. The payment covers specialized platform support to ensure the proper setup of the hosted training software and integration with your existing IT infrastructure.

Contact our sales department, and we’ll calculate the cost of LMS installation on your premises.

What are the system requirements for self-hosted LMS installation?

Our software engineers develop tailored system requirements, security specifications, and recommendations for each individual project. You can discuss your system setup and installation possibilities with tech support.

How do you deploy the on-premise version of the LMS?

The process of on-premise learning management system deployment starts with reviewing the technical requirements and aligning them with your existing IT infrastructure. We set up a meeting to agree on the installation methods and necessary resources.

Next, we prepare the infrastructure as required and deliver all data for verification and subsequent installation. Our IT team provides all distributions and configurations within two business days. Two more days are required to install the software. You will need to provide our software engineer with remote access to the prepared infrastructure to perform the installation.

After that, an iSpring QA engineer will test the installed LMS in your infrastructure to make sure it functions properly and follows all data security protocols. We provide user onboarding and consult your IT team on software maintenance. Once the system is up and running, you, as the customer, will fully control the further operation of iSpring Learn and back up data and content if necessary.

Can I migrate my cloud-based LMS to an on-premise version?

Yes, you can request the LMS migration to your internal servers. The process involves exporting data from the cloud, installation of the on-premise software, data import, and configuration to ensure all functionalities and content are properly transferred.
